Genius Hour Week 3

For Week 3 of Genius Hour, I planned to continue practicing stitches and practice making the blanket using the pattern.

I practiced the stitches and was so excited to start the blanket!

I applied the "chain stitch" that I learned previously to begin the blanket! I found it challenging because I had to make a chain of 161 stitches. I lost count and had to redo it several times. Then I found that it was easier to count out loud to keep track. By watching the video, I learned that a "double crochet cluster" is a group of 3 "double crochet" stitches in one stitch.

By the end of the hour, I completed 2 rows of the blanket!

I am proud of myself because although it was challenging right in the very beginning due to my mistakes, I persevered!

For the next Genius Hour, I will continue the making the blanket!

Genius Hour Week 6

On my timeline when planning my Genius Hour project, I was hoping to complete my blanket in Week 6. However, as previously mentioned, it cannot be completed in this short period of time with the materials I chose. This week as I continue to crochet my blanket, I am reflecting on my progress. I noticed that my speed of crocheting is a lot faster now compared to the beginning. I am glad that I am becoming more comfortable with crocheting as I am used to knitting. I am very fortunate of my knowledge gained from knitting as it helped me begin my crochet project a lot faster and easier. For example, I already knew hot to attach another ball of yarn when I have finished a ball of yarn, so I did not have to research this. Here is my blanket so far: (Lee, 2017)

Genius Hour Week 1

It is Week 1 of Genius Hour! I have been very excited to get started! For my genius hour, my goals are: Learn a variety of crochet stitches Learn how to use a crochet pattern Crochet a blanket! For the first week, I planned to research basic crochet stitches online and watch videos, while practicing using the crochet hook and yarn. To begin my research, I found this website to learn the basics of how to crochet step by step, including an introduction of crochet supplies, how to hold a crochet hook and how to make a slip knot for crochet. Due to my previous knowledge from knitting, I knew which size crochet hook to use with a certain type of yarn and I had all the materials at home already. Although I do not know how to crochet (yet!), I have crochet hooks that I use when I make mistakes when I knit. To start, I needed to make a slip knot. (Lee, 2017) I already knew how to make a slip knot from knitting, but I still researched to see if it...
