This week, I am finishing up my Genius Hour project. My main learning of Genius Hour is: The journey and process is more important and valuable than the destination. Although I was unable to complete my blanket, I gained a lot of valuable experience and knowledge. Relating back to the goals I set at the beginning of the project, which were 1) learn crochet stiches 2) learn how to read a crochet pattern 3) crochet a blanket, I believe I was successful in achieving them. I learn how to create a crochet chain by doing "yarn over" and "chain stiches", along with learning how to "single crochet" and "double crochet". I learned how to read the pattern I found for my blanket along with the video tutorial of the pattern. Finally, I was able to learn how to crochet a blanket, even though it was not completed. I really enjoyed my Genius Hour experience as I learned the basics of crocheting, which can be applied to other crochet projects in the futur
My blanket is taking a long time to make! Over time, holding the yarn on my left hand was starting to hurt. I researched alternative ways on how to hold the yarn. I found a great resource that has step-by-step images along with corresponding videos! As a result, I found a new way to hold the yarn that is more comfortable for me! It is called "the pinky hold technique" where the pinky is used to change the tension of the yarn instead of the index finger. This is the video I used: Crochet Guru. (2012, Jun 5).
