Genius Hour Week 8

This week, I am finishing up my Genius Hour project. My main learning of Genius Hour is: The journey and process is more important and valuable than the destination. Although I was unable to complete my blanket, I gained a lot of valuable experience and knowledge. Relating back to the goals I set at the beginning of the project, which were 1) learn crochet stiches 2) learn how to read a crochet pattern 3) crochet a blanket, I believe I was successful in achieving them. I learn how to create a crochet chain by doing "yarn over" and "chain stiches", along with learning how to "single crochet" and "double crochet". I learned how to read the pattern I found for my blanket along with the video tutorial of the pattern. Finally, I was able to learn how to crochet a blanket, even though it was not completed. I really enjoyed my Genius Hour experience as I learned the basics of crocheting, which can be applied to other crochet projects in the futur...

Genius Hour Week 7

My blanket is taking a long time to make! Over time, holding the yarn on my left hand was starting to hurt. I researched alternative ways on how to hold the yarn. I found a great resource that has step-by-step images along with corresponding videos! As a result, I found a new way to hold the yarn that is more comfortable for me! It is called "the pinky hold technique" where the pinky is used to change the tension of the yarn instead of the index finger. This is the video I used: Crochet Guru. (2012, Jun 5). Genius Hour Week 6

On my timeline when planning my Genius Hour project, I was hoping to complete my blanket in Week 6. However, as previously mentioned, it cannot be completed in this short period of time with the materials I chose. This week as I continue to crochet my blanket, I am reflecting on my progress. I noticed that my speed of crocheting is a lot faster now compared to the beginning. I am glad that I am becoming more comfortable with crocheting as I am used to knitting. I am very fortunate of my knowledge gained from knitting as it helped me begin my crochet project a lot faster and easier. For example, I already knew hot to attach another ball of yarn when I have finished a ball of yarn, so I did not have to research this. Here is my blanket so far: (Lee, 2017)
